EGA Prostaff began in 2006, when Lee McCormick and Nick Johannsen began organizing a loosely connected group of waterfowlers into a tight knit waterfowl hunting machine. The ega Prostaff has over 120 years of combined waterfowl experience in the eastern South Dakota prairie pot hole region.

A Typical Day of Waterfowl Hunting

The day will start off, depending on where the honey hole is located, approximately 3 hours before sunrise.  The group of hunters and the members of the EGA Prostaff will rendezvous at a designated location to transfer gear and organize the travel arrangements.  Our group of hunters will be staying at a location in and around the general hunting area to minimize morning travel; however on some days that may be up to an hour and a half.

We will arrive at the honey hole generally a half hour before sunrise.  Depending on the type of field we will be hunting will determine how early we will arrive.  If the blinds need to be "dug in" we will allow an extra half and hour to set up.  The group of clients are encouraged to help in the set up of the decoys and blinds so as to understand where and how the birds will decoy.  This is not a requirement but we feel it ads to the sense of accomplishment at the end of a successful hunt.

Shooting time will be a half hour before sunrise and generally speaking we will be getting buzzed by early flight mallards even before we are ready to start the hunt.  If honker hunting there maybe a delay before we start seeing the first scout groups of canda geese.  During and after the hunt there will be plenty of time for stories and group camaraderie....this is the best part of the hunting experience.

When we are engaging a flock of canada geese or mallards, the EGA prostaff guides will be calling, flagging and calling the shots for the clients.  The EGA prostaff guide will be coordinating any adjustments to the decoys and advising any hunters on proper concealment and hunting safety.  A safety breifing will take place prior to all hunts to remind everyone the importance of shooting in their lane and loading and unloading procedures.

After the hunt the opposite will take place.  All equipment will be torn down and put away for the next hunt.  Usually the next day we will be in different location.  Toward the end of each days hunt an EGA Prostaff member will be scouting for the next day to ensure a quality experience for the client.  Depending on the location, breakfast might be in the field before the hunt or after the hunt in a local diner.

The next day it will start all over again!
